Erik Herzog retired as a Deputy Chief from the Long Beach Police Department after 31 years of service. His experience encompasses 25 years in the Investigations Bureau where he worked at all ranks and numerous units including Homicide, Criminal Intelligence, Gang Investigations, and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. As a supervisor in the Homicide Detail, he supervised the investigation of over 300 Officer Involved shootings and In-custody deaths and presented findings to executive officers, elected officials, and members of the community. Mr. Herzog’s executive experience includes Commander of a patrol division, Chief of Staff to the Chief of Police, and Investigations Bureau Deputy Chief. Mr. Herzog has a history of working closely with the media, providing numerous on-air interviews following critical incidents. He has worked closely with City Management to develop transparent policies and practices related to Public Records Act requests and critical incident community briefings.

Mr. Herzog is the recipient of the prestigious Richard Rose Career Achievement award and the Michael Sergi Career Excellence award. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Long Beach, and is a graduate of the Public Safety Leadership Program: Safe Communities Initiatives from the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. He is also a graduate of the Force Science Institute and Leadership Long Beach’s Executive Course.
