Jeff Berkenkamp

Investigator

Jeff Berkenkamp retired as a Commander from the Long Beach Police Department after over 25 years of service. His six years of executive experience includes command of several of the department’s busiest divisions including Detectives, Field Support, Training and Patrol. Much of his supervisory career was in Critical Incident Management and he spent 15 years in various roles on the department’s SWAT Teamwhere he was involved in hundreds of operations including hostage rescues, barricaded suspects, and high-risk search warrants. He was a department SME on field tactics and was responsible for reviewing hundreds of uses of force, officer-involved shootings and internal affairs complaints, providing recommendations to the Chief of Police.

Mr. Berkenkamp is a graduate of Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government’s Leadership in Crisis program, as well as the Force Science Institute and the Sherman Block Leadership Institute. He is a FEMA certified Trainer in Incident Command Systems (ICS) and a FEMA trained Incident Commander and Operations Section Chief. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
